History
Joseph Crane, after returning from World War II, had an interest in broadcasting and filed the license for an educational FM station at Snow College. Over the next 35 years the station was on and off the air due to the lack of funds and supervision. Until its revival in the spring of 1994, Snow was without a radio station since 1978. Due to the time that the station had not been operating, a new license had to be applied for with the FCC. The application was filed on the 6th of October 1992 and the construction permit was granted on August 19th 1993. After President Day granted the finances needed, equipment was bought and Douglas Barton of KMTI, KMXU and KSVC radio provided the engineering needed to hook it all up.
The KAGE was back on the air on April 4th of 1994 at 6:30am. We were originally located on the 2nd floor of the communication building on the north side of the Crane Theater. That building was tore down in 1998 and the KAGE was moved to the basement of the Varsity House where we carried on for one year and one semester. The move to the main floor in January of 2000 gave us new furniture, better ventilation, better sound quality and a great view (and was the location of the best days of the KAGE!)! However with all the changes on campus summer 2003, the varsity house was tore down. We are currently located in Fern Young Hall, formally a girls' dorm, located North of the Noyes Building. less
KAGU is a classical music radio station run by Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. They broadcast at 88.7 MHz on the FM dial.Prior to its switch to all-classical, it was a college rock station through the late 1990s. Billing itself as the "hundred-thousand milliwatt zippo of the River City", KAGU broadcast a 100 watt signal throughout Spokane. Other slogans included "your only alternative" and "proletariat and bourgeoisie alike agree!"
In its first year, KAGU was largely relegated to a radio format of Adult contemporary music with student reports of news and sports as live lab voice work. But in 1987–89 things changed with KAGU when student Station Managers John Hipp, Steve MacCorkle & Ken Schiele developed radio shows that were depictive of cutting edge college radio. By year's end in 1988 there was a renaissance of student shows that stand as some of the station's most creative and exciting productions. Among the repertoire were live sports broadcasts, live speaker series, live theatre audiocasts, live weekly music shows, and student-sponsored music genre shows. Notable among the broadcasts at the time were the shows Folk Stew which showcased live Spokane, Washington regional folk and blues musicians, the Cork the Tuna's Skipped Grooves show on which Steve MacCorkle brought the edge of his bay area roots and love for alternative new wave and punk tunes, and John Hipp's show The Hipster Radio Identity Crisis which was a cornucopia of musical treasures & Dead Before Midnight featuring Live Grateful Dead bootlegs. These are notable examples of the early days of KAGU, but there were other student shows which also added to the vibe and fabric of the exciting first years of the station.
A marketing high point was achieved when the infamous trailer "Fish For Breakfast" was broadcast in 1994. The concept was simple: the voiceover stated "Fish For Breakfast, and KAGU every night. That's the way it oughtta be!"[citation needed]
Daily programming included alternative rock and specialty shows from 7 AM to midnight.

In late 2004, the KAGU transmitter and antennae were moved from atop the GU Administration Building to the KHQ-TV tower site on Tower Mountain in southeast Spokane. Also, KAGU’s power was boosted from 100 watts to 5,000 watts. Currently, the KAGU signal reaches a 60-mile radius from Tower Mountain.
The station currently follows a commercial-free, all-classical music radio format. less

When this 15-year-old sings, people listen. She has gotten the attention of several Nashville record labels and investors. About 6 months ago she came to visit Nashville, sang three songs at a local venue, and in one weekend, she had offers from four different people who wanted to work with her. She has chosen to work with Dale Morris and Dan Mitchell, who own DMP Records, and she is currently recording songs at The Tracking Room in Nashville. Dale manages major-label acts such as Kenny Chesney and Gretchen Wilson. Her sense of pitch and her vocal movement is amazing. Self-taught until about 6 months ago, Kaitlyn is currently studying voice with Brett Manning’s studio in Nashville, where, her instructor whispered to her dad after the first lesson “I don’t usually say this about my clients, but on a vocal scale of 1-10…your daughter is an absolute 10.” Underneath that beautiful, dainty exterior is a very determined, hard-working soul that takes this business very seriously. She is taking piano and guitar lessons, and beginning to co-write her own songs with some Nashville writers. She and her younger sister are home-schooled so that Kaitlyn can have the freedom to sing at shows anywhere at anytime, and make frequent trips to Nashville. When Kaitlyn was only 11-years-old, she won the “Kingsport Idol” competition. Since then, she has performed at various venues and fairs, with audience sizes from a handful of people to crowds of over 30,000. With the vocal power of Martina McBride and the southern charm of Miranda Lambert, Kaitlyn fills a niche in the music industry that is yet unfilled…a powerful young singer with an amazing ability to charm your socks off and leave you in awe when she sings, a beautiful “living doll” look, and a wholesome yet uncompromising attitude that comes through in her music. There are many young female singers who want to “make it” in the music business, but after only one time listening to her incredible vocal ability you’ll know…there is no one else like Kaitlyn Baker. less

He is a producer, songwriter and recording artist. Kal has been writing songs since he was fourteen years old, and upon hearing 2Pac AKA Makaveli's 1996 album, The Don Killumanati: The 7 Day Theory, he began to pursue hip hop. He grew up listening and became influenced by such Hip-Hop legends as Ice Cube, 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G. and Scarface. He started listening to Hip-Hop so young that he would have to sneak and take his father's hip-hop cassettes to listen to them. He also enjoyed listening to all types of music, from R&B to Slow Jams.
He began his rap career in 2007 with his Hip-Hop group F.T (short for Family Thang). It consists of rappers Cockey Guns, Murda’Ry, Kal Gully, Hussein, Fiyah and R&B singer Toya. The group was founded by Cockey Guns and Kal. They added four members, Murda'Ry and Toya, siblings of Cockey, and Hussein and Fiyah, who are also brothers. All of the group members are first cousins, which made the group name Family Thang a perfect fit. In May of 2007, F.T began recording their unofficial debut album The Coalition: Volume 1. On July 18, 2007, The Coalition Volume 1 was released as a nineteen-track LP. It was independently released & sold throughout Chicago out of his trunk. It was extremely successful in the underground. It gained immediate popularity from the first two releases, “Whereabouts” and “Don’t Talk”. A month later, he began working on his solo project.
In May 2008, Kal released his first official mixtape Gully As Ever. It was made available via his MySpace website and That Crack page, on January 28, 2010. It received over 60,000 listens, and 2,000 downloads in the first week of release. It provides insight into the mind of a changing man. From the heartbroken tales of his family struggles during “Stronger” featuring Cockey Guns, to “What I Been Through” – songs best understood by a genuine hustler.
Kal delivers provocative rhymes, with both a masterful flow and a wise perspective over beats by a range of producers. He is best known for his fierce lyrical style and ability to present stirring tales of urban life with pin point accuracy. Kal Gully lived everything most rappers write rhymes about but not all actually experience: drugs, crimes, imprisonments and gangs. Of course, such experiences became Kal’s rhetorical stock-in-trade. At the same time, though, he delved into street culture and flirted with danger, such experiences similarly characterizing his rhymes. He is a real life block hugger who happened to learn how to tell his story in rhyme less

Her self-penned songs resonate with her ever-growing young following. Possessing a voice of incredible range, strength and feeling, she intuitively connects with audiences in literally any setting. Humor, wit and grace inhabit her wistful original material, which she has been performing over the last year in everything from clubs to outdoor stages to coffeehouses, solo and with accompaniment. As a recent live review stated, "Kat Parsons played her acoustic heart out on a gigantic stage only to dominate every inch of it."
Since the release of her debut album, Framing Caroline (Waterdog Music), she has toured across the United States and England, garnering praise worldwide for her singing and her songs, making waves in the independent music scene. In press, (The Onion, Chicago Tribune's Metromix, & Songwriter's Monthly), on radio, (WRNR, WLUW, WBEZ), and perhaps most importantly, from the crowds themselves.
Kat's full-length album, Framing Caroline, was produced by Ralph Covert (The Bad Examples) and released on Waterdog Records in May of 1999. Tracks from that record have since been featured on compilations in the UK and the US, on MTV, and independent films, as well as a new live single, "Standing Still", released in France. Parsons has been featured on several Chicago television shows, including Wild Chicago, as well as Fox TV WV as part of the Kanawhapalooza Festival. In addition, she was chosen as a Finalist in GuitarGirls.com Songwriting Contest as well as a Semi-Finalist in the Pantene Pro-Voice Contest, recognizing excellence in songwriting. In addition to performing on her own, she has also appeared live and on record in support of artists as diverse as Doug Hoekstra, Rebecca's Statue (w/Son Seals & Fareed Haque), and Made to Be Broken.
Kat was born to parents Darrell and Julie Parsons in one of Europe's most prominent musical cities, Vienna. Her father was an opera singer in the Vienna Opera House. He recorded with the Clemencic Consort for Harmonia Mundi and is the featured tenor on a Philips release of Mozart's "Mass." He still performs occasionally in the Baltimore area. Her mother is a professional keyboardist and singer and released a solo album in Europe in the mid-70s to her credit. She also recorded and released a dance single with her band Foxx Fire.
Raised in Maryland as a child and teenager, Kat sang in local shows with her parents and brother Jon, as well as performing in various musical theater productions. Kat became a theater major at Northwestern University (Evanston, Illinois), where her parents first met. Her interest in music continued with classical guitar studies and performing pop music with other musicians. For a particular show, she became a songwriter out of necessity. Once she tapped into her muse, she continued to write and perform as a solo artist and ultimately with her own trio. less
